Kidney-inspired Nano Brushes for Water Purification ft. Halan Mohamed
About the guest
Halan Mohamed is a PhD Candidate at University College London, UK, using inspiration from nature to stop surfaces getting “dirty” (fouling) from scale, proteins and oils, by controlling surface properties at the nanoscale. A highlight is work on polymer brushes: polymer chains tethered to a surface at one end, like a hairbrush, that keep unwanted compounds from sticking. The PhD grew out of an undergraduate research project in chemical engineering in the same group.
Halan Mohamed curated the Real Scientists Nano Twitter account (@RealSci_Nano) from September 14 to September 20 2020. Read all of Halan’s tweets from that week.
