This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use pranoti.thesciencetalk.com, on what legal basis, and what rights you have. It is provided under Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, “GDPR”).

1. Controller

Dr. Pranoti Kshirsagar E7, 8, 68159 Mannheim, Germany Email: pranoti@thesciencetalk.com

No data protection officer has been appointed, as the thresholds in Art. 37 GDPR and § 38 BDSG are not met.

2. Hosting and server logs

This site is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages, operated by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P Kelly Jr Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (a subsidiary of Microsoft).

When you open a page, your browser necessarily transmits data that GitHub records in server logs, including your IP address, the requested URL, the date and time of the request, the referring page, and your browser and operating system identifiers.

  • Purpose: delivering the website, security, and stability.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in providing a functioning, secure website.
  • Transfer outside the EU: GitHub processes data in the USA. Transfers are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and GitHub’s certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Retention: determined by GitHub; see the GitHub Privacy Statement.

3. Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JLGZLS20VW), a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, to produce aggregated statistics about how the site is used — which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and which content is worth developing further. The set-up is configured to keep the data to a minimum:

  • Advertising features, remarketing, and data sharing with other Google products are switched off.
  • Google Analytics truncates IP addresses before storage and does not log or store full IP addresses.
  • The data is used only in aggregate. It is not combined with other information to identify you and is not used to make decisions about individual visitors.

Google Analytics processes the pages you view, approximate location derived from a truncated IP address, referral source, and device and browser characteristics.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_JLGZLS20VW, which tell one browser apart from another so repeat visits are not double-counted. They hold a randomly generated identifier, not your name or email. Full details are in the Cookie Policy.

Your choice

Analytics runs by default. You can turn it off at any time through the cookie settings. When you turn it off, the cookies above are deleted and no further analytics data is collected from your device. Turning it off does not affect how the site works. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage under the key pk_consent; this is not sent to any server and holds no identifier.

You may also object to this processing under Art. 21 GDPR — see section 10.

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and improving it. We have weighed this interest against your interests and rights, taking account of the limited, aggregated nature of the data and the safeguards above.
  • Transfer outside the EU: data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, and Standard Contractual Clauses apply in addition.
  • Retention: event-level data is retained for a maximum of 14 months.
  • More information: Google Privacy Policy.

4. Google Fonts

Fonts on this site are loaded from Google’s servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). This transmits your IP address to Google Ireland Limited, and potentially Google LLC in the USA.

  • Purpose: consistent typography across devices.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in a uniform presentation of the site.

5. Contact by email

If you email us, the content of your message, your email address, and any other details you provide are processed in order to answer you.

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to a contract or pre-contractual steps; otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
  • Retention: until your enquiry is fully resolved, then deleted, unless statutory retention periods under commercial or tax law require otherwise (generally 6 or 10 years).

6. Purchase of digital products

Digital products sold on this site are paid for through Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Dublin 2, Ireland.

When you click a purchase link, you leave this website and are taken to a checkout page hosted by Stripe. Payment and billing data — your name, email address, billing address, and payment details — are collected and processed by Stripe as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your full payment card details.

We receive from Stripe only the information needed to fulfil and account for the order: your name, email address, the product purchased, and the transaction amount.

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — performance of the contract; Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR for retention of invoices under tax law.
  • Retention: transaction and invoice records are retained for 10 years under § 147 AO and § 257 HGB.
  • More information: Stripe Privacy Policy.

Pages on this site link to third-party services such as LinkedIn, Spotify, and YouTube. Following such a link means the third party’s own privacy policy applies. We have no influence over their processing.

8. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place on this site.

9. Use of AI in producing content

Some articles on this site are drafted with the assistance of AI tools and reviewed and edited by Dr. Pranoti Kshirsagar before publication. No personal data of site visitors is entered into AI systems as part of this process. See the AI Disclosure for details.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access (Art. 15) — obtain confirmation of whether your data is processed and a copy of it.
  • Rectification (Art. 16) — have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Erasure (Art. 17) — have your data deleted where one of the listed grounds applies.
  • Restriction (Art. 18) — have processing restricted.
  • Data portability (Art. 20) — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object (Art. 21) — object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f).
  • Withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)) — at any time, with effect for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

To exercise any of these, email pranoti@thesciencetalk.com.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR). The competent authority for this site is:

12. Changes to this policy
