New EU AI Act disclosures start Aug 2, 2026
Are you ready for Article 50?
Hello helllooo,
The EU AI Act’s transparency obligations under Article 50 apply from 2 August 2026 — and if you publish AI-generated content professionally, you have specific disclosure duties that go well beyond adding a footnote to your terms and conditions.
For the past two years I’ve been evaluating different AI tools and I just winged it when it came to disclosures. And so, honestly, I’m very happy to see these guidelines which will soon be regulations.
Before we move on…
What’s in scope: AI-generated or manipulated text published on matters of public interest (research, health, policy, environment, science). This includes blog posts, social media, video scripts, and podcast show notes.
Where disclosures must appear: At the start of your content — before the first paragraph, at the top of captions, or as an on-screen overlay. End-of-post disclaimers and terms-and-conditions links don’t meet the standard.
What qualifies as editorial review: Substantive human review by someone with editorial responsibility — not spell-checks or light read-throughs.
Your next step: Build disclosure statements into your publishing templates now, before the deadline.
Cheers,

Science Communication as a Competitive Advantage in Your Grant Proposal
Science communication isn’t a soft extra in a grant proposal. It’s a signal evaluators read — about whether you understand your research’s significance, who it’s for, and whether you’re ready to lead at the level you’re applying for.
