Talking about myself is cringy
one thing that helped me get past it
Hello you,
Were you also raised to be humble, taught to focus on doing great work and opportunities will come? - Yea, me too.
But, unfortunately, this doesn’t work anymore.
In 2026, you have to talk about yourself, your work, its impact. But it’s cringy. I know. It’s cringy. It’s like listening to your own voice. Watching yourself in a video. It’s unsettling. I felt the same. I still do. Even after posting over 800 videos with my face in them.
But here is thing, this cringe is what is holding you back. You are not visible and missing out on opportunities you didn’t even know existed. What helped me was the shifting the mindset - to think of myself as a brand, a company, a service provider. Not a person. And suddenly, I could talk about myself all day long. Because I wasn’t bragging about me. I was sharing something I believe in.
This one shift led to winning the Lise Meitner Medal. Working with Nobel Laureates. Supporting a prestigious €8 million European project. Real opportunities I didn’t even know were possible. And deep down you know you need to be more visible. You know you should talk about yourself more often in order to advance in your career.
Every time you want to post on LinkedIn or introduce yourself at a conference, you shrink yourself. This stops on February 10th.
