until NotebookLM enters the chat

Helloo!

Sometimes finding useful information in dense pdfs feels like looking for a needle in the haystack.

This happens with me quite often because I’ve to keep track of research projects across Europe - European Research Council (ERC), European Innovation Council (EIC), UKRI, NNF (Denmark), FNR (Luxembourg) to name a few. Complete list here.

ERC alone has 6 open calls each year - Starting, Consolidator, Proof of concept (twice a year), Advanced and Synergy - and the information needed to prepare the proposal is scattered across three work programme (2025, 2026, 2027) pdfs, ERC YouTube channel, ERC info webinars, ERC webpages and the list goes on.

And so when I want to check evaluation criteria for ERC Synergy 2027 grant, the info could be in the work programmes 2025 (78 page pdf), 2026 work programme (72 page pdf) or in a blogpost about changes to the 2026 & 2027 work programme.

I know where this is going cause this happened to you as well… frantically clicking around with 10 open tabs, multiple pdfs. No amount of coffee can help with this and searching with “control+F” will only get you so far.

And then NotebookLM entered my TechStack. 🤩

See, I’m not suggesting that NotebookLM is THE answer to this operational chaos. But it definitely is a reliable tool to extract & consolidate information from all types of digital formats - video, audio, txt, websites, pdfs.

I’ve been testing NotebookLM features for the past 15 months and documented my experience along the way as part ofAI Labs - The Science Talk Experiment**s series. This tool from Google is quite impressive and does more than just extract, organise and consolidate information from 50+ sources. Almost every time NotebookLM find me a needle in the haystack.

So give it a shot, it’s definitely worth your time.
