New Grant, OpenAI panic, New course soft launch

ERC Plus Grant, OpenAI Code Red, Announcement

Hellllooo,

A lot happened in the past week so this email might feel like topic hopping, bear with me.

Before we get into the details, special welcome to everyone who recently joined this newsletter. My name is Pranoti and I am the founder/creator of The Science Talk. My mission is to empower and enable scientists to share their stories in digital spaces with confidence and ease.

1. ERC Plus Grants - 7 Million for 7 Years. New funding scheme from the European Research Council for ideas that are TOOO transformative for the traditional/existing funding schemes. I summarised the 90 min info webinar including very interesting Q&A for you, you can read my summary blog (4 min read) and LinkedIn post (2 min read).

2. Nano Banana Pro 3 Reception - I already shared my thoughts with you about the impact of this powerful genAI tool for scientists and scicomm professionals. The SciComm professionals who offer visuals as service are extremely critical of this new update which, to some extent I understand. Because any tool is only as good as the intentions of the person using it. Free resource at the bottom of this email.

3. Code Red at OpenAI -Nano 🍌 upgrade didn’t just panic the visuals creator businesses but also Google’s direct rival - OpenAI which issued “Code Red” in an internal memo. More details in my LinkedIn post.

And finally the news I’ve been dying to share with you☺️

A bit of background: Since 2018, I have been training scientists on topics of personal branding, navigating Twitter/Bluesky/LinkedIn as a scientist, effective scicomm strategies, podcasting 101 and more recently, AI for Scientists. And it breaks my heart every time I see my students struggle to implement what they learnt once they step out of my workshop door. I see a clear implementation gap which is something I have been trying to fill for a while now.

And I think I might just have the solution - 3 month Online Course which takes learning to the next level because you don’t just learn the skills but also polish them through guided implementation.
Plan is to start with two courses - Personal Branding for Scientists in the Age of AI and CXO Mindset for Research Leaders. Ifyou want to join, then reply to this email and I will put you on the waiting list.

Cheers,
Dr. Pranoti Kshirsagar
